Canada has overtaken the United Kingdom and the United States as the top Japa destination for Nigerians.
A new State of Japa 2026 Q3 report shows Canada is now the most searched relocation destination among Nigerians.
The report analysed 1,645 relocation calculations done between July and September 2026.
That is a big fall for the US. In the previous quarter, US had 17% of searches. Now it has dropped to just 7%.
Canada still has Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). After 1 year of skilled work, you can qualify for PR. UK now wants up to 10 years for settlement, and US is getting harder.
UK banned most students from bringing dependants. Canada still allows family to join, and that matters for many Nigerians.
Rising visa fees, stricter rules, and longer processing times in UK and US are pushing people to Canada.
Canada needs workers in healthcare, ICT, engineering and skilled trades – areas where Nigerians already shine.
The same report found something surprising.
Working remotely from Nigeria was the most recommended option, with 53% of assessments. Staying in Nigeria was 31%. Moving abroad was only 15%.
That means many Nigerians are now calculating: “If I fit work remote and earn dollars from Naija, why I go Japa?”
If you are planning Japa in 2026/2027, Canada is now the safest bet for PR and family. UK is still good for students and health workers, but settlement don dey long. US is now risky – e don fall to 5th place.
Before you pay any agent, check your Japa Score, check your budget, and check if remote work fit you better.
